The city of Albuquerque's population grew by 1,036 people, or 0.18 percent, in the year that ended July 1, 2017, according to new population estimates this week from the U.S. Census Bureau.
That growth rate was the weakest of any major city in the region, and ranked 503rd out of 758 cities in the nation with populations of 50,000 or more.
As of July 1, Albuquerque's population was 558,545.
The new Census Bureau figures represented the seventh consecutive year of population stagnation for the city. Since 2010, Albuquerque's population has grown by 2.1 percent, or 11,679 people.
Rio Rancho added 1,813 people over the year for a 1.9 percent growth rate. That made it the 104th fastest growing city in the nation. Rio Rancho's population is now 96,159, making it the third largest city in the state. Las Cruces is the state's second largest city with a population of 101,712.
Santa Fe gained 498 people for a 0.6 percent growth rate. Its population is now 101,712.
