Update: APD overtime probe continues

By Dan Klein

Many of you have asked for an update on the investigations into payroll and overtime at the Albuquerque Police Department.

The State Auditor has told us that their investigation has expanded and is ongoing.

The Attorney General has stated that their investigation is only ongoing.

Neither the State Auditor nor the Attorney General would provide any further comment.

After APD PIO Gilbert Gallegos stated that one of the January homicides was “justified,” several readers have asked what are the rules and regulations governing the practice of calling a homicide “justified”.

I asked this of APD Gilbert Gallegos and he never responded.

I asked Raul Torrez office (District Attorney of the 2nd Judicial District Attorney office) if they are involved in these decisions and what policies govern this if they are. His PIO declined to comment.

So how does a homicide get a determination of “justified?” Who knows? The people who make this decision refuse to tell the public (that pays their salary and who they serve) anything about how they determine homicides are justified. Transparency from public servants is non-existent in Albuquerque.

If you have other questions for our elected and appointed leaders send them to ABQReport and we will ask for you.
